Raptures Lost’s Top 10 Games Of 2013

2013 was an amazing year for gaming across all platforms. Unfortunately I do not own a Playstation 3 therefore games like ‘The Last Of Us’ And ‘Beyond Two Souls’ will not feature on my games of the year but I’m in no doubt that had I played them they certainly would have.  Quite a few quality games missed the cut and make up the honourable mentions section at the bottom, this once again only goes to show just how strong this year has been. I would also like to point out that I am yet to play Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag, Saints Row IV, Metro: Last Light or Batman Arkham Origins if you’re wondering why they were left out.

10 – Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger 

Gunslinger is the first game I’ve ever played in the Call Of Juarez series and what an introduction it was; I haven’t had this much fun with ‘bullet time’ since Max Payne 3. For an arcade game Gunslinger is amazing value for money with beautiful cell shaded graphics, an interesting narrative and fast, fun, rewarding combat that is as exciting as it is bloody.

9 – Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons

Brothers has to be one of the most innovative games of the year; forcing the player into controlling two different characters at the same time but the twist is that you control one with the left thumb stick and the other with the right. This game really sucked me in with its incredible art design, intriguing narrative and beautiful music as well as some seriously creative plat-forming sections.

8 – Dead Space 3

Dead Space 3 isn’t perfect and in comparison to its predecessors it lacks the scare factor that it once had but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s still a brilliant game. I really enjoyed the new cooperative mode although I’m aware of how unpopular that was but it was done so well! Crafting almost any weapon you could imagine with only the resources around you was fun addition and it was rewarding.

7 – The Wolf Among Us

Only a single episode of TWAU has been released thus far but it was enough to get me fully invested in the characters and the highly interesting narrative. Taking charge of Bigby Wolf as he attempts to keep order and investigate crimes is seriously intriguing, I adore the premise of this game; point & click games are awesome!

6 – Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Blood Dragon is the perfect homage to cheesy 80s movies and it was everything that I hoped it would be and more. Give me synth music, one liners, crazy over the top action and laser breathing dragons and I’m sold; amazing.

5 – DMC: Devil May Cry

I’ve already heaped a lot of praise on this game in my review but I still find it amazing that such a great game went under the radar of some many gamers. DMC has some of the best level designs that I’ve ever seen and I still can’t imagine how tough it must have been to do. Play. This. Game.

4 – Rayman Legends

I was a huge fan of Rayman Origins and the art style, colour and insanely fun plat-forming that came with it so as you can imagine I was pretty damn excited about Legends and man did it deliver on so many levels. I will never get tired of running through the amazingly creative level designs (especially the music ones) and just looking at how beautiful the graphics are; anyone for a game of Kung Foot?

3 – Tomb Raider

It’s been a strong year for characters that have been portrayed to show a lot more humanity than ever seen before, none did this better than the much anticipated reboot of Tomb Raider. I really enjoyed Lara’s quest to be reunited with her friends, face her fears and uncover the mysteries of the island. Seeing her become stronger as the story progressed was amazing and beautiful at the same time.

2 – Grand Theft Auto V

Rockstar took everything I loved about every other GTA game and put it all into one amazing package known as GTA V. One of things I love about this game is that unlike previous entries it doesn’t discourage exploration in fact it encourages it. From the start of the game you are given the opportunity to explore a vast world of various terrains, activities, quests etc. The sheer scale and attention to detail of GTA V is unbelievable and it’s as much fun to drive for miles and miles listening to the radio watching the sun go down over the beautiful landscapes as it is to sky dive from a plane and fist fight a shark. GTA V is the type of game that will always keep me coming back for more and it just doesn’t stop giving.

1 – Bioshock Infinite

What words can possibly be used to describe how amazing this game is that haven’t already been used a million times over? Bioshock Infinite is the type of game that I want to show everyone that I know, even those that are not that big into gaming just to say “look at how far we’ve come”.  Not only is it the best game of 2013 but for me it’s probably my favourite game of the entire generation.
