Album Review: Samarkind – Samarkind (Self Released)
The self-titled debut album from hard rocking four-piece, Samarkind will be released on November 24th 2017.
The deep-south grit of Black Rain gets this debut off to a strong start with the incredible vocals of David Paul Byrne really leaving their mark. It’s a bouncy opener that showcases the rock melodies that Samarkind are all about.
It’s with Sun Stroke Heart though that the wicked groove that is layered throughout the album really comes out to play. A wickedly catchy tune that has a solo that just soars.
Skinny Rivers will get the hips shaking, Good Man Call’s soft melody is nice & Fire and Blood’s harder rocking riffs brings the good feelings to highest point possible.
Things slow down with the final two tracks though. Both very forgettable. The acoustic melody of Touch Stone Man is nice enough but Blue Mountain is the most disappointing track of the album. It just lacks oomph up until a blistering guitar solo but by then it’s too little too late.
Samarkind have done well with their debut. An album that is certainly going to light a fire under the arses of the rock community.
