EP Review: Damned Spring Fragrantia – Chasm (Basick)
The EP, Chasm is the start of a new chapter for Italian mob, Damned Spring Fragrantia. The EP is the first with a new guitarist & will be released on November 17th 2017 via Basick.
Of the new record, vocalist Nicolò Carrara comments:
“Writing this EP was a very cathartic experience. The amount of attention to detail in every riff, in every vocal line, in every song structure, was unprecedented. We threw away lots of ideas to make room for only what every one of us thought was perfect, innovative, and mature. This was obtainable only through the strong and resonant artistic vision of the members of DSF.”
Opening with the intense heaviness of the title track, there is little doubt straight away that Damned Spring Fragrantia are here to wreck your day. Huge metal riffs, technical guitar mastery & hardcore-style vocals make an instant good impression.
Five tracks of ferocious rhythm, the aggression is offset by a fragmented sound that keeps things balancing on the edge of the void. Umbra, Float & Pages deliver crunching heaviness with a tint of melody that makes for an exciting experience. An impressive EP ends with the technical rhythm of Quasar, a nasty wounding track that caps off an excellent modern hardcore metal listen.
