Game Review: Eventide: Slavic Fable (Xbox One)
Inspired by Slavic mythology, Eventide: Slavic Fable puts the player in the shoes of Mary. A botanist tasked with saving an endangered plant by her grandmother. Invited to the Heritage Park her grandmother runs, she arrives to discover that the evil Boruta has kidnapped her & is planning to destroy the world using the parks ancient magic.
Mary will have to seek alliances with the strange & mythical creatures that inhabit the park if she is to stop Boruta & save her grandmother.
Eventide: Slavic Fable is a puzzle adventure/hidden object game played from the first-person perspective using point & click elements. Artifex Mundi are pros at making these games. As you can see from the many we’ve played & reviewed below:
Clockwork Tales: Of Ink & Glass
Nightmares From the Deep: The Cursed Heart
Enigmatis: Ghosts of Maple Creek
Nightmares From The Deep: The Siren’s Call
Dark Arcana: The Carnival
Enigmatis 2: The Mists of Ravenwood
Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom
Grim Legends 2: Song of the Dark Swan
Regular players will instantly enjoy the difference in story-telling here. While the ‘kidnapping’ plot is present as per usual it does take it in a different & more enjoyable direction. This is easily one of the most fantastical stories & vibrant looking games Artifex Mundi have made so far.
It leaps off the screen with bright, colourful paintings & top-drawer visuals. Each location feels unique thanks in part to the interesting & unique looking creatures. With lots more interaction involved, it’s rare that boredom will set it.
Where issues do arise though is with the hidden object scenes & the puzzles. The former are very unimaginative in design while the latter are uninspired. Far too easy for most of the games 3-4 hour playtime.
An additional chapter adds an extra 30-60 minutes to the overall completion time. A welcome addition even if it doesn’t really add anything to the overall product.
At this stage you know exactly what you’re getting with an Artifex Mundi game. Thanks to an interesting story, great locations & striking visuals, Eventide: Slavic Fable stands out as one of the better offerings!
