EP Review: Astaroth Incarnate – Omnipotence – The Infinite Darkness (CDN Records)

Astaroth – The Great Duke of Hell, in the first hierarchy with Beelzebub and Lucifer; he is an integral part of the evil trinity.

Astaroth Incarnate – the Great Dukes of Hell. Hell, in this case, being Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The hierarchy is one that sees five demons summoning forth the gates of hell through their brand new EP, Omnipotence – The Infinite Darkness, out on September 8th 2017 via CDN Records.

Astaroth 1

Band frontman, Astaroth, had this to say:

“Astaroth Incarnate was created with the vision of bestowing the ideologies of Astaroth to our hell spawns through our interpretations and relating them to our world and society of today. Our goal is to create extreme metal which feels limitless in its creative form. All while staying true to our roots and influences in metal.

With each member coming from a different musical background, it allows us to craft each song with a different mindset, in an effort to intrigue the listener and entice their mind to dissect the lyrics which are encrusted with multi-layered meanings.

All of our songs, music and lyrics combined, are built around personal exploration for each spawn to experience in their own way. There is fear, knowledge, punishment, strengthening, torture, judgement, enlightenment and many other subjects which we portray in our material”

Astaroth 2

Astaroth Incarnate are a band that combine so many different sub-genres of metal. You’ll find a little bit of thrash, a little bit of death, a little bit of black & a little bit of groove but it all results in a seriously heavy sound.

Serving as more of an intro to this EP, Obscurity sets the stage well with a sinister echoing voice leading into a chunky slice of groove metal.

It’s on Curse of the Black Plague that things really get going & in some style. Ferocious riffing & drumming alongside nasty guttural death metal vocals. Its take no prisoners, forgive no sins approach is exciting especially when it drops into an even darker & aggressive sound. For all its fury, it’s not without bundles of rhythm.

The screaming solo that is spat out amongst the riffs of Unfleshed is what next grabs the attention but its small fry compared to the near 10 minute blast of metal that is Sanctum of Torment. Twisting guitar riffs, glorious rhythmic drumming & brutal vocals meld together to create a concoction that will put hairs on your chest!

The highlight of a relentlessly enjoyable death metal record that finishes off with one last middle finger to any doubters. Re-Creation is a force to be reckoned with. Filled with meaty hooks & a constant hammering of intensity that will leave you exhausted but satisfied.
