Album Review: Gathering Darkness – The Heat Of A Dying Sun (Necromance Records)

Released on the 22nd of May 2017, The Heat of the Dying Sun is the new album from Spain’s Gathering Darkness. The new record was released via Nercromance Records.

Gathering Darkness 1

Playing a no nonsense rhythmic style of death metal, Gathering Darkness kicks off the aggressive proceedings with the chunky crushing beat of Infernus Terra Est before A World Within Us (Post Human World) slaps you hard across the face with its meatiness.

The Heat of the Dying Sun is all about delivering huge slabs of meaty riffs. Along with a heavy drum beat & some seriously intense guttural vocals it makes The Heat of the Dying Sun such an eye-opening listen. Tracks like The Light Won’t Save You, I’m the Weapon (…But You’re the Killer) & The Fall of Your Gods are all about delivering hearty & hard metal.

8 tracks is just about long enough to keep the album from becoming stale. They’re isn’t masses of variation here but the it’s still a satisfying listen. No frills, no messing around…the penultimate track Blood of Our Enemy is proof that Gathering Darkness have plenty of talent to deliver a memorable death metal experience.

The album closes with a bang, The Darkness That Dwells Inside having one aim, to destroy any resistance that you might have left. The methodical rhythm alongside a brief but exciting guitar solo really ends things on a high.
