The line-up this year is one of the best the festival has ever managed to put together. With a huge range of established & up-and-coming bands spread across the four days. One of the best things about Bloodstock is how it gives a leg-up to the future of metal with the New Blood Stage. A stage dedicated to the underground, the unsigned, the ‘hoping to make a name for themselves’ bands. One such band playing the New Blood stage, second from top on the Sunday of Bloodstock is Norwegian thrash metal band, Vorbid.

We’re very proud to bring you an interview with Vorbid.

1. Tell us a bit about yourselves. How’d you get started as a band?

Vorbid started out as a band of friends from school, playing Sepultura covers. This was 2013 and the name of the band at the time was Purgatory. We were all around 14 at the time, so the music was primitive and more aggressive than it had to be.

Michael (Rhythm guitar/vox) also played drums in a different band where he met Daniel (lead guitar), which resulted in him deserting that band and completing the first real line up of Vorbid (at that time under the name Morbid Visions). We spent a year or so forging a style that was melodic, yet thrashy. We made our trip into the studio in 2016 to make the EP you hear today.

Our influences at that time had strongly diverted from the harder forms of thrash, to the prog rock era of the 70s. Our current lineup: Michael (Rhythm/ vox), Daniel (Lead guitar), Marcus (drums), Jonas (bass).

2. How are you feeling about playing Bloodstock this year?

None of us has ever been to Bloodstock so we are all stoked not only for playing there, but also attending the festival itself. We’re not used to play festivals, and an international crowd like Bloodstock will be amazing.

3. What can people expect from your set?

You do not want to miss this. Guitar wankery, solos all over and changing times and tempos. It’s not really standard thrash metal, you have to see it for yourself. We’ll be playing a lot of new stuff, so if you’ve heard the EP and hate it, you should still come over.

4. What bands (if any) are you hoping to check out while you’re there?

Megadeth is among our favourite metal band and we’re all about seeing them. Also Ghost, Havok, Annihilator, Blind Guardian, Kreator, Testament, Possessed and Xentrix will all be on our to-do-list.

5. What’s the future plans for the band?

We’re currently in the studio, making our debut LP. It will be out by the end of 2017, and we’re all exited to hear the response as it is really different from our EP. We’re also playing Wacken Open Air this year.

We’d like to thank Vorbid for taking the time to speak with us. Make sure you check them out at Bloodstock, Sunday evening on the New Blood Stage.

Their EP, Vorbid is out now & can be picked up from most major streaming services such as Spotify & Apple Music.
