Lucifer’s Dungeon Interview

1. How did you get started as a band?

First of all, thanks for having me.

I started this band in 2008 under the name Dark Cellar while living in Thailand. As I couldn’t find any proper musician sharing my views and believes I decided to be one-man-band. The first song, The Forest, was written under depression and dedicated to someone so destructive. I recorded a demo in 2009 containing songs from The Dark Army Raises and others, but where is it?? No, idea.

At least, I still have lyrics.

As I always read news (between lines), books: historical, religious and political, I write music and lyrics containing either hints or saying things straight up on those topics.

2. How would you describe your sound?

I think the audience should judge. But the first and second (up-coming) albums sound differently. I like the clear sound of guitars so that me and listeners can easily hear what I play and maybe figure out how to play it too.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Let’s see. I started to listen BM (Black Metal) about a month after writing the first song but before I mainly listened to heavy metal (Iron Maiden) and punk (The Exploited).

I started to listen BM from Satyricon’s Shadowthrone album, I guess. Then it went to DarkThrone, Taake, a little bit of Mayhem, Burzum, Carpathian Forest, Gorgoroth (love Infernus’ playing style). The usual stuff actually. Mainstream in the BM scene, BUT IN A GOOD WAY).

At some point, Moevot (Les Légions Noires) amazed me which I listened a lot. For now though, I love Arckanum (I have and listen to all his LPs) but still Gorgoroth, Taake, Burzum, Carpathian Forest among others are in my car’s playlist and vinyl collection.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

I think helped, yes. More people can listen to my music and THE MESSAGE!! Spread the word!!

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

I love books. Since I was 14 I read a lot. I’ve been reading The Last Kingdom (great book) but one of my favourites is Paradise Lost (it inspired me to write Prize of Fallen which will be on the 2nd album).

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

To finish recording drums with Cerberus for the second album and release it. Going to do a few gigs within state.

As for other tours? Yes, If we are invited.

We’d like to thank Lucifer’s Dungeon for taking the time to speak with us & Qabar Extreme Music PR for setting it up. You can order The Dark Army Raises over on Lucifer’s Dungeon’s Bandcamp as well as on GrimmDistribution’s Bandcamp. Check out the band over on Facebook.
