Horror Movie Review: Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (1988)
With a title like that you know you’re in for a wild ride. Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (also known as The Imp) is a horror comedy. It’s plot is loosely based on the short story, The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs.
Starring not just one scream queen but three (Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens & Michelle Bauer), Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama is a massively entertaining movie covered in a layer of cheesy 80’s visuals & music. The package is completed with incredibly awkward dialogue, terrible acting & enough nudity to keep a porn-addict off the internet for 5 minutes.
The plot is based around the initiation of Taffy (Brinke Stevens) & Lisa (Michelle Bauer) into the Tri-Delta sorority group by Babs (Robin Rochelle), Rhonda (Kathi O’Brecht) & Frankie (Carla Baron).
Their initiation includes being spanked with a paddle & sprayed with whipped cream. Yeah, this movie has no qualms about sexing everything up. Meanwhile outside, three nerdy frat boys, Calvin (Andras Jones), Jimmie (Hal Havins) and Keith (John Stuart Wildman) are watching desperately hoping to see some boob. These three are as cliched as you can possibly get & the weakest parts of the movie.
So desperate are the trio that they actually sneak into the girls’ house while they are cleaning up. Naturally they are caught & as a punishment sent to steal a trophy from a nearby bowling alley along with the new pledges. The duo are beginning to have second thoughts about even being the sorority now but go along with it anyway.
At the bowling alley they run into Spider (Linnea Quigley) who is trying to rob the place. She has a crowbar so they team up to bust into the trophy room but accidentally drop the one they need. It opens & out comes a creature! Turns out an Imp named Uncle Impie was trapped inside the trophy & he offers them 3 wishes as a thanks.
Jimmie gets lots of gold, Tammy becomes a prom queen & Keith gets to have sex with Lisa. However it’s quickly revealed that the wishes don’t stick for long & that Uncle Impie has other plans. Unknown to the group, Babs, Rhonda & Frankie have been watching from the security monitors. Uncle Impie uses this to possess the three of them & sends them out to kill the rest.
Pledges, sororities & boobs are forgotten in a desperate fight to survive now. Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama is a very trashy movie but one that entertains consistently. It doesn’t take itself seriously in the slightest. The whole ridiculousness of it will leave a smile on your face.
Several of the actors play up to this (Quigley, Stevens & Bauer) & are clearly enjoying themselves. Some of the others though are just bad, spouting off dialogue as if it’s the first time they’ve ever spoken. Whereas that would be frustrating in other movies here it just adds to the whole ‘cheesy’ feel of the movie.
It’s a silly flick but with a name like Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama what else would you expect!? Well worth a watch if you like your 80’s horror!
