Band Interview: With Heavy Hearts
With Heavy Hearts are a melodic death metal band that hail from Orebro in Sweden. They are a big favourite of us here at GBHBL and are one of the bands I personally think you should all keep an eye on in the future. After getting hooked on their initial EP/single release, Sparks, I was absolutely thrilled to see their first full release, The Mirror’s Principle, come out in 2016 and it didn’t disappoint. Check out our review of that first EP here and also of The Mirror’s Principle here. See where the band placed in UnholyDarklotus’ Top Ten albums of 2016 here and The Disc’s Top 50 albums here.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Me (Adam) and Emil have been friends for a long time and wanted to create some music together, at first as a studio project but it turned out really good so we wanted to do something more with it.
Then Emil met an Pontus on the train and he missed playing in a band so he joined us really fast when he found out we where playing.
Emil work as a Sound engineer, so out in the job a pretty drunk Magnus came up to Emil, since he heard he was starting a band, to keep a long story short, Magnus joined the band and we couldn’t be happier!
2. How would you describe your sound?
Melodic death metal with a modern touch.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
A lot of bands, In Flames of course, Soilwork, At the Gates but also other bands like Iron Maiden and so on.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
I think it have helped us, Spotify and YouTube are two great platforms to spread your music.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Having a cold one with friends are a favourite.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We are soon releasing a new single with a music video, and we are writing songs for our next album.
We are also planning some tours for this year!
