Interview: Into The Unknown (Written – 2024)

Melodic symphonic rock band, Into the Unknown recently released their latest album, a covers album called ‘The Other Side of the Wall, Part 2’. In this interview we learn a little bit more about them.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

My name is Natalie. I was about 3 years old when I first saw a show that my Dad was in and it made me want to be a performer. I then went on to study at the Urdang academy in London, and performed as a singer and dancer across Europe.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

Melodic Symphonic Rock.

3. What’s currently going on in your camp? New releases? Tours? Etc.

We’ve just released a covers album called “The Other Side of the Wall, Part 2”, and in the process of recording the new album. The band released two studio albums and an earlier covers album, before I joined, that’s why this current one is called Part 2! We are planning on doing some shows next year but for the moment we are concentrating on finishing the album recording.

We’ve also just released the video for our version of Stand My Ground, originally by Within Temptation.

4. What has been the most positive experience of making music to date for you?

Actually doing the covers album has been really good. Some of the songs that were chosen, I wasn’t particularly keen on them to start with, but the band allowed me to express myself and put my own spin on the songs, and honestly, some of the songs that I initially wasn’t keen on, like Assassing, I now absolutely love. We’re now in the middle of writing the new album and I’m really excited about how its going.

5. Likewise, what has been some of the more challenging aspects and how have you overcome them?

I’ve not sung this style of music before, so recording the covers really got me into the spirit of the genre, and into the recording. Its certainly built up my confidence.

6. How do you handle the modern expectations of being in a band? Always online, having to put out content constantly, your success measured in likes and follows?

We’ve not really done the constant release thing, we’re still going down the traditional route of doing an album rather than multiple singles. We did do a single when I first joined the band, but since then we’ve been concentrating on putting the albums together. We’ve got a Rupert (Bass player/producer) who deals with a lot of the logistics, and the other guys deal with the social media and website.

7. What’s something that really ‘grinds your gears’ about the industry/business these days and what would you propose is done to combat it?

You can be famous for anything now, and it seems that reality shows and such like can be more important than talent. Not sure how to combat that, apart from working away and hope that people like what we do.

9. Outside of the music, what’s do you do to relax?

I listen to music and watch films, I socialise a lot with my partner and friends. I absolutely love art and drawing, and I spend a lot of the time in the gym, doing workouts or aerial hoops.
