Interview: Arctic Dreams (Written – 2024)

Arctic Dreams is an arctic-metal (symphonic/industrial/dark-electro/modern metal) band who we spoke to in 2023 (read that interview here). Since then, they’ve overcome a huge number of obstacles and challenges, and in this interview we catch up with them.

1. How did you get restarted as a band after a relocation?

[ALEX_Y]: We didn’t stop anything. We finished recording our debut album, moved and continued our activities

[SYDIUS]: Never ended.

[GENA]: I joined the band after the covid.

[NENAD]: Alex approached me at a local gig in 2023 and I joined.

[ROMAN]: I’ve joined it already in Serbia.

2. How would you describe your sound?

[ALEX_Y]: A frantic mix of heavy metal, electronic gothic and classical music.

[SYDIUS]: Unexpected explosion of an obsessed with chaos modesty.

[GENA]: Somewhere between 90 and 11,000 Hz.

[NENAD]: Poccstein.

[ROMAN]: We are still in the process of finding our sound. Sometimes it is dirty and explosive, sometimes it is a mix of electronic industrial sound and death metal.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

[ALEX_Y]: Metallica, Megadeth, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Hocico, Die Sektor. These are the main bands, but there are a huge number of them.

[SYDIUS]: Devin Townsend, Rings of Saturn, Dillinger Escape Plan, Nevermore, Psy Opus, Unprocessed.

[GENA]: John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen and many others.

[NENAD]: Nile, Fear Factory, Jeff Loomis, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Morbid Angel, Dream Theater.

[ROMAN]: I can say it only for myself. For me, it is Blind Guardian, Eluveitie, and Dream Theater.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

[ALEX_Y]: Honestly we can’t compare because we only did promotion in the era of streaming services. I think it interfered, because absolutely everyone had access to promotion and it became very difficult to attract and retain listeners.

[SYDIUS]: You know, when someone succeeds – it helps, when fails – claims it hindered.

[GENA]: Any way to get your music to the listener helps.

[NENAD]: It helps.

[ROMAN]: It is just a tool. A potent tool. We just need to master this tool.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

[ALEX_Y]: Travel.

[SYDIUS]: Study something and do sports.

[GENA]: Drinking.

[NENAD]: Study, read, do sports, travel.

[ROMAN]: Playing chess.

6.What are your future plans musically? Tours?

[ALEX_Y]: Forward and only forward… New releases, fans and shows.

[SYDIUS]: I’d like to be focused on personal development and tours as one of opportunities.

[GENA]: New singles and live shows next year.

[NENAD]: We are in a pretty tight spot right now to organize a tour, but it will happen eventually. SOme live shows next year definitely. RIght now musically my focus is on the new album and some other musical works I am working on.

[ROMAN]: It’s for Alex to decide.
