Future Palace – Distortion (Arising Empire)

This is Future Palace at their most melodic, at their heaviest, at their most experimental, at their most challenging, and at their most accessible. Across the eleven tracks, an array of creative sounds and ideas can be found, ensuring that Distortion is remarkably memorable.

A Swarm of the Sun – An Empire (Pelagic Records)

A word like ‘beautiful’ or ‘emotional’ is thrown around a lot when it comes to layered post metal and rock but when music encapsulates those words (and so many more) they deserve to be used. Yet, An Empire is more than that. It’s a soundscape that fills every part of you, that coats itself on thickly, and wraps around like a shroud, but never to the point of discomfort. Even at its most ominous, this is an album you can relax to.

The Dead Daisies – Light ‘Em Up (THE DEAD DAISIES PTY LTD / SPV)

Promising an anthemic rock and roll experience, nothing more and nothing less, The Dead Daisies latest record is true to the old-school spirit that the band proudly showcases. Featuring high-powered and energetic tracks that will delight the long term fanbase and, potentially, bring in even more.

Helevorn – Espectres (Meuse Music Records)

Helevorn Espectres Artwork

Espectres is an album of the utmost quality that delivers a punch of moodiness, melancholy and emotion while managing to still be pretty damn heavy. It’s an album that deserves to be heard and once you listen to it, it’s going to be hard to stop repeating it over and over again.

Silvern – Stardust Sermons (Vendetta Records)

Showcasing a raw and primitive style of black metal enhanced by bleak atmosphere, Silvern’s debut album has arrived and with it comes billowing darkness. A flood of melancholic savagery with a mind-altering level of storytelling.

ExpiatoriA – Shadows – Live (Diamonds Production)

It speaks volumes about the quality of this recording that it feels like this is the next best thing to actually seeing them perform live. Not just because of how enjoyable their retro heavy doom sound is, but because this live recording is imperfect in a number of ways.

Moggs Motel – Moggs Motel (Steamhammer / SPV)

Rock is promised, rock is delivered, and fans won’t go away disappointed. There’s nothing game-changing here, but there are a bountiful number of reasons to have a good time while listening to it.

Solars – A Fading Future (Ripcord Records)

A band that often, with ease, creates thick layers of atmosphere and emotion. Solars debut album is an album of feeling, but from a wide array of thought-provoking angles.

From Ruins – Poison for Your Soul (Earache Digital Distribution)

Injecting freshness into the modern metal scene with their debut EP, ‘Inner Demons’, From Ruins left an impression and now look to build and enhance that with a new hefty four-track release.

Mortal Blood – Harbingers of Chaos (Self Released)

Doom, yes, but not exclusively doom. Mortal Blood’s Harbinger of Chaos is given a fresh twist via the medium of gothic, death, and black metal. A fresh twist that creates a more elaborately atmospheric sound, even as a raw and savage edge permeates every aspect of it.
