In a world of ‘heard it all before’, a massive amount of credit must be given to Heartline for consistently offering up fresh ideas and interesting takes on familiar metal elements. Call it alt-metal all you want, but it’s so much more, and that is what captures the imagination across the six tracks of this EP.

Beginning with an electrifying and explosive blast of heavy alternative noise, Heartline arrive with aplomb on the title track. Stretching their melodic and metal muscles, showcasing something a bit more experimental, but cleverly structured to be quite anthemic.

It’s a track of surprises and all of them are cool, but that’s a word that applies to the band as a whole. Hence the massive amount of enjoyability that comes from the energised intensity of Akimbo and the powerful Synthetic. Both are strong examples of Heartline’s creativity, and both feature an array of punchy and heavy instrumental sounds, erratic effects, burgeoning ambience, and seriously infectious choruses.

With plenty to say too, Heartline grab the attention and hold that grip firmly with New Immune and X7. The former is effects-laden, whereas the latter is a very ‘traditional’ sounding alternative track. This, and the finale of Lovers provides intense heavy touches, erratic melodies, feature modern ‘core’ elements, but shift style constantly, resulting in a pair of impressive efforts. Two big highlights and in the case of the latter, a very strong end to the release.
