Weekly Release Roundup – Friday, 26th July, 2024
From dream pop and doom, to post rock, hardcore punk, and fantasy metal, to blackened death metal and classic head banging inducing heaviness, it’s a big week for releases and we’ve got a list for you to check out. All these releases are out today!
Iress – Sleep Now, In Reverse (Church Road Records / Dune Altar)
Unique, incredibly well thought out, and extraordinary music. This is Iress and this is what the experience of Sleep Now, In Reverse offers. Think of it like pop-doom, with heavy and despondent atmosphere. With that, you are kind of on the right path, but then throw in a lot of emotion, and the picture becomes clearer.

Callas – Days (Self Released)
A contender for the best EP of the year based off the title track alone. Then, you add the other two tracks, and it’s hard to see Days being topped. It’s a stunner of a release that leaves you wanting so much more.

Spread Thin – World of Snakes (Self Released)
Short and to the point, Spread Thin have a sour outlook and plenty to say, but keep the focus sharp with an album that barely passes the eighteen-minute mark in length but features nine tracks. With all but one of the tracks sitting around the two-minute mark, it’s really no surprise that this is a violent and virulent expulsion of hardcore punk and metal intensity.

Wizard Tattoo – Living Just For Dying (Garage Fire Recordings)
As creative as ever, as interesting as always, and as striking as expected, Living Just for Dying is a really strong EP and the perfect follow-up to Fables of the Damned.

Tyraels Ascension – Hell Walker (Rottweiler Records)
Metal and fantasy go extremely well together, and Tyraels Ascension are all too aware of this. Not just basing their album and sound in the world of the fantastical, but even releasing a video game called Tyraels Ascension: Hell Walker, which will, of course, feature the music of Tyraels Ascension.

Spewing up death metal fire and fury with a sharp technical edge and built on the foundations of fantasy, Under the Reviled Throne sees Summoning the Lich begin to break away from the pack with an album of consistent quality extreme metal anthems.

Goat Semen – Fuck Christ (Hells Headbangers)
With a name like Goat Semen and an EP title like Fuck Christ, you kind of have to be brutal, noisy and furious sounding. Which are just three words that sum up the sound of this band and their devilish new EP. Five tracks long and featuring five classic, yet bastardised, blackened death metal efforts, Goat Semen make no apologies for their untamed and unflinchingly chaotic ways.

The gods of anthemic heavy metal music. Dream Evil have been making people of all ages head bang for a few decades now and though it has been a while, they don’t mess with the winning formula in the slightest with this new album, Metal Gods.
