Album Review: Carnivore Diprosopus – Rise of the Insurrection (Comatose Music)

Carnivore Diprosopus, purveyors of obliterating, bone-crushing brutality since 2002 are back with a new album, ‘Rise of the Insurrection’, their first since 2013. It will be released on August 9th, 2024, via Comatose Music.

Eleven years on since they last released an album and Carnivore Diprosopus haven’t lost a step. In fact, there’s a strong argument to be made that they are sounding more brutal than ever here. This new album is a barrage of heaviness that just keeps on hitting regardless of any white flags you might wave in their direction.

It speaks volumes about this new album when an intro, Insurrection Ordinance, hits as hard as it does. Showcasing a defiant stance and demonstrating, to returning listeners, that they haven’t lost any of their firepower. In fact, thanks the cacophony of brutal noise and speed that follows with Begin Redemption and Dhamaneon, it becomes abundantly clear that they have a whole new arsenal on offer.

Brutal death metal at its most destructive and chaotic sounding, and that’s an opinion formed even before the likes of The Battle of Saicasm (Aerial Predator) rains down unmitigated heaviness and The Onslaught…Cyborg Tank Division crushes everything in its path. If the scathing riffs, pulverising percussion, and filthy vocals that make up Carnivore Diprosopus wasn’t enough, the latter of these two tracks feature a guest appearance from Angel Ochoa (Abominable Putridity, Cephalotripsy, Disgorge etc).

The unrelenting power of this album continues with aplomb as Carnivore Diprosopus put the hefty exclamation mark on their return with a final set of tracks that bolster the destructive aspects of this record even more. From Khristov’s Seventh Eagle Legion, and its manic slam tendencies, to the outright ruthlessness of The Refaim Machine Brigades, and the crushing virality of Psycho Mincer Assault Corps, it’s a very strong closing trio of tracks.

The album isn’t quite done though as there is a bonus track called Whore Collector of Testicles, a revamped version of a track that appeared on Carnivore Diprosopus’ 2004 debut album, Filled My Stomach with A Pregnant’s Corpse. A revamped track that just so happens to also feature additional vocals from Rene Barthoulot of Slamentation. While not a necessary listen, it’s a track that certainly shows off the band’s progression over the years.
