Album Review: Werewolves – Die For Us (Self Released)

Werewolves formed in 2019 with the express purpose of releasing ten albums in ten years. 2024 sees them hit the halfway mark with ‘Die for Us’, yet another barrage of completely moronic death-metal due out 19th July.

You know how this goes by now. It’s Werewolves and they are here to rip your f**king head off and piss down your bloody neck stump. They make extreme music and do so in the most ferocious and feral way possible. Promising to leave the body, mind, and soul completely broken and always delivering with garish aplomb. All with their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks.

I love this band. Their no-nonsense approach to hateful and horrible death metal is so appealing and I greet every new release with a level of joy normally reserved for more personal relationships. I, like many of you, want to be f**ked up by Werewolves and find myself constantly coming back for more. Hence, this latest beating we have chosen to subject ourselves too, and be warned, it’s a violent one.

Now, you might be expecting more of the same rabid and rancorous noise that they have delivered in previous albums, and you’d be right. However, let’s not pretend that Werewolves aren’t developing as a unit. They might still be sounding like they hate everyone and everything around them, but their intensity is more focused than ever, and they are very capable of making this level of noise a bit groovier, very addictive, and extremely lovable. Putting it simply, they’re well and truly nailing what it means to have your own extreme sound and style.

I find myself almost unwilling to delve into the nuances of this album, even though that’s kind of the point of a review. Not because I dislike it or anything, but rather because I just want to squeal and scream about the viciousness on show and sell it to you based off the fact that it is the equivalent of being clubbed around the head, stamped on, and then set on fire. I want you know, especially if this is your first Werewolves experience, just how horridly heavy, putridly pungent, and evilly entertaining this album is.

This is the appeal of this album, and even though Werewolves are progressing musically, the goal remains the same. Die For Us is another ballsy example of everything they are, and then some. Nine blood-thirsty tracks with bone-breaking drumming, flesh-slicing riffs, and soul-eviscerating vocals. All coming from the world of death metal, with some elements of blackened noise thrown in for good measure.

It’s not going to change a single mind, you either welcome the abuse or cry about it like a little bitch. Werewolves don’t care.
