EP Review: Celestial Sanctuary – Visions of Stagnant Blood (Self Released)
Extreme UK metal band, Celestial Sanctuary have released a brand-new EP called ‘Visions of Stagnant Blood’.
What a lovely surprise this is! Out of nowhere, extreme metal noise mongers Celestial Sanctuary have dropped a brand-new EP. Called ‘Visions of Stagnant Blood’, it features three gargantuan, guttural, and grim efforts that call to the animal inside all of us. If you thought their increasing popularity would dull their vision of carnage, this EP will correct that.
Especially when the opening title track unleashes an absolute barrage of wicked heaviness. The epitome of crass brutality, this track has one goal, and it’s to leave you feeling absolutely wrecked. It’s a ballsy start, but it’s all about the next track, which might be one of the most addictive tracks Celestial Sanctuary have ever released.
Called Puddles of You Reflect the Filth Within, it is immense. Those damn riffs, the heft of the percussion, the vomitus sound of the vocals… f**king hell. One of the best things you’ll hear all year.
How about the third and final track, Gavage of the Vile though? It’s over ten minutes long, if you can believe that. Some dark ambience introduces things, before a cacophony of instruments come screaming out the gloom, methodically assaulting the senses. Then along comes the vocals to tear chunks out as the rhythm shifts, and somehow, Celestial Sanctuary sound more demonic than ever. It is a bleak sounding effort that meticulously wears the mind down over its lengthy runtime. You’ll feel absolutely spent by the end, but so very satisfied.
Damn, this band are good.
