Horror Short Review: The Sound (2021)

From Waterhouse Films, written and directed by Patrick Stagg, comes The Sound. A tension-thick horror short that offers up a modern re-telling of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart.

The story surrounds a man (Marcus Klein) living in a small countryside house alone who starts to be tormented by a repetitive thumping sound. What it is and where it is coming from is a mystery, but quickly, it starts to affect the man’s mental state.

It is ceaseless and annoying, something the viewer also experiences. Yet, this isn’t tinnitus, and as the story unfolds, the short takes a more psychological stance revealing that this noise might be more metaphorical than first expected.

What would you do in this situation?

It’s a worthy watch, shot impressively and acted well, especially as there is no dialogue. It takes a classic story, and gives it a modern and fresh twist. Not frightening, but uncomfortable, and extremely memorable. Check it out below.
