Pijn – On the Far Side of Morning
Post-rock collective Pijn have captivated audiences worldwide for nearly eight years. Their upcoming album, From Low Beams of Hope, to be released on 28th June by Floodlit Recordings, promises to elevate their artistry to new, breathtaking levels.
Ahead of the release date, Pijn have shared the mesmerising first single ‘On the Far Side of Morning’.
Guitarist/Producer Joe Clayton on the new single:
‘On the Far Side of Morning’ encapsulates so much of what I wanted to achieve with this record, a broad emotional range from solitude and fragility to triumph and purpose, removing limitations on instrumentation and personnel in pursuit of what, for us, was an uncompromising crescendo.
There are many words that can sum up this new Pijn single, but the first that comes to mind is ‘wow’. They have proven in the past to be an eclectic band that creates electrifying music, but this new single shows an even deeper and broader advancement to their sound. It’s nearly ten-minutes of melodic post and progressive immersion that comforts the mind, body, and spirit. Pijn are back, and bloody hell, this new album is shaping up to be very special indeed.
Iress – The Remains
The stalwart Los Angeles-based dream metal band, Iress, has just released the second single ‘The Remains’ from their upcoming album Sleep Now, In Reverse. The album will be released on 26th July 2024 via Church Road Records (ROW) and Dune Altar (USA).
Hauntingly and achingly beautiful, The Remains is a powerful piece of music that, like everything Iress does, captures the imagination with its abstract style. It’s a moody listen, very melodramatic, but with thick layers of atmosphere. Once again, and to the surprise of no-one, the vocals are gob-smacking. Check it out here.
Summoning The Lich – My Horrors Unending
St Louis, Missouri fantasy-driven technical death metal band Summoning the Lich has announced their sophomore album, ‘Under the Reviled Throne’, which is to be released via Prosthetic Records on July 26th. Alongside the album announcement, the band has shared the lead single and accompanying music video, ‘My Horrors Unending’.
So damn gnarly sounding, Summoning the Lich are back and are sounding really horrible. In the best tech-death way possible, of course. It’s a beast of a track that showcases instrumental chaotic power and freakish vocals, while almost being catchy. It’s mean, but it’s lovable. Check it out here.
Scarlet Rebels – Grace
South Wales’ chart-topping rock band, Scarlet Rebels, have released their new single ‘Grace’ from the forthcoming album ‘Where the Colours Meet.’
Another taste of the new album, and like previous single ‘Secret Drug’, ‘Grace’ is very catchy and very memorable. They’re a band who nail the anthemic side of rock music, where anyone can enjoy the hell out of what they do, and this new track is another great example of this. A bit more melodramatic, but still insanely infectious.
Broken Jaw – No OnE cArEs!
‘No OnE cArEs!’ is the latest single from Gloucestershire, UK punk metal band, Broken Jaw. The new track is available to stream everywhere now, and comes with a video too.
Now this is good s**t. Broken Jaw are on venomous form here, delivering a fantastic combo of punk and metal, wrapped up in this delightfully infectious tempo. Their ability to mesh the genres together so effectively is so impressive. It’s time to start taking this band very seriously, as they’re very talented. Do check out the video too though as it’s awesome.
Future Palace – The Echoes of Disparity (ft. Charlie Rolfe)
German trio Future Palace have released a video for their brand new single ‘The Echoes of Disparity’, out now via Arising Empire. The track is taken from the band’s upcoming album ‘Distortion’ which will be released on 6th September.
A new Future Palace track is always a reason to celebrate, but one that features Charlie Rolfe of As Everything Unfolds is reason to go a bit nuts. It’s a smart collaboration that results in a banger of a track, showing that Future Palace have eyes on the big time. When they’re dropping tracks like this, nothing will stop them it seems. Check it out here.
Crossfaith – God Speed (feat. WARGASM)
Japanese genre-blenders Crossfaith have released their futuristic and post-apocalyptic new single, ‘God Speed’ (feat. WARGASM).
The band states:
This song is based on the concept of simply living in obedience to one’s desires. It expresses the attitude we should not lose in this restricted and monitored society. This song features WARGASM, a duo with distinctive and iconic voices, and their contribution adds an erotic and dirty vibe to this track.
Frenetic and frenzied, which is to be expected with a team-up like this, and filled with all manner of EDM elements. As far as vitality goes, this track will send you into a fit, especially when the chorus hits. An addictive listen overall, it is the perfect showcase of both bands’ ability to be infectious. Check it out here.
Thorns of Ivory – Dogs of War
South African groove metal powerhouse Thorns of Ivory have released their highly anticipated new single, ‘Dogs of War’.
A meaty blast of heavy from Thorns of Ivory, this nasty slice of groove metal has feral energy to it, but with a really compelling head-banging vibe too. The instruments are thick sounding, but it’s the way in which the vocals gurgle and growl away with such ferocity that really perks the ears up. A very cool track.
Earthbound – A Conversation with God
UK melodic metal band, Earthbound are back with a brand-new single called ‘A Conversation with God’.
It’s great to have Earthbound back and this return comes with one hell of bang. The melodic metal band haven’t lost a step, in fact, they’re sounding stronger than ever. Their melodic metal soundscape is frenzied and furious, but equally epic too. Killer guitars, bone-crushing drums, and vocals that go from scathingly intense to boomingly grand, it’s an outstanding track with progressive ideas and a cinematic edge.
The Blood Republic – Live Forever
The Blood Republic, the electrifying rock outfit known for dynamic sounds and infectious energy, is set to ignite the airwaves once again with the latest single, ‘Live Forever’. Out now on all major streaming platforms, and accompanied by a music video.
With The Blood Republic you’re always guaranteed something groovy, something rocking, something with grungy undertones, and something that takes up residence in your head for days afterwards. Guess what? It’s Live Forever, and once again, The Blood Republic delivers. It’s another absolute banger from this band. Check it out here.
No Life – Obnoxious (feat. Emmure)
New Zealand/Aotearoa metalcore quartet No Life team up with Emmure on their fresh new single ‘Obnoxious’. The band will share the new single live on tour in New Zealand later this month.
Says vocalist Connor Dickson:
With the current state of the world and the climate we find ourselves in, we pull no punches and say what everyone is thinking. We wanted this track to be abrasive, and we leaned into utilising elements and a soundscape not entirely heard in modern metalcore.
Get your stompy two-step loving shoes on, No Life have an aggressive tune for everyone to enjoy. One that just so happens to feature the immense Emmure too, a hell of a collaboration. The appeal of this track is so simple, it just goes hard, standing out from the metalcore pack through its creative levels of heaviness. Check it out here.
Candy – You Will Never Get Me (feat. Justice Tripp)
To further tease their forthcoming new album, ‘It’s Inside You’, due 7th June via Relapse Records, Candy have unveiled their latest single, ‘You Will Never Get Me’ featuring Justice Tripp of Angel Du$t and Trapped Under Ice.
Expect the unexpected with Candy, and still come away surprised. This short track is all about abrasion, offering up a really primitive sound that has barely contained rage running through it like a thick vein. It’s pretty intense, and then we get to the breakdown, and it hits levels of disgusting that is exceptionally likable.
