EP Review: Wolves Don’t Sleep – Fears & Fractures (Self Released)
Wolves Don’t Sleep are a six-piece metalcore outfit hailing from Nottingham, in the UK. On May 3rd, 2024, they will release their third EP, ‘Fears & Fractures’. Bringing light to a new era of Wolves Don’t Sleep and sending a message to all who struggle to voice their feelings within a closed off world.
While it is becoming harder and harder to get excited about more metalcore, whenever it comes to a new release from a band within the genre, I repeat the all-important words that “quality is all that matters”. Who cares if you’re not doing anything original if you’re doing it well.
Which is something that Wolves Don’t Sleep do and any fan of heavy music can enjoy this EP. Featuring five blasts of intensity that have gurn-inducing riffs, a dangerous number of hooks, some real snarl to the vocals, and a percussion section that you’ll feel in your soul. Wolves Don’t Sleep aren’t f**king around here, and it shows by how they have layers of dark atmosphere, minimise melody, and focus intently on sounding as mean as possible.
That being said, a lot of the metalcore tropes are present, but it’s how they’re used that makes the difference. The highlight of the entire EP coming in the form of the title track which certainly suggests that Wolves Don’t Sleep might have taken some influence from Lorna Shore’s Pain Remains album. No complaints though, it’s a banger track.
Across the entire EP, you can hear a ton of influences in their music, with some stuff going all the way back to the early days of noughties metalcore. It’s all about what they do with this though, and the strength in this band comes from the fact that they deliver on what they promise.
