Demo Review: Falooda – Demo (Self Released)
Falooda is a four-piece noise/punk/experimental group from Athens, Greece, inspired from the Mughalai cold dessert made with noodles, rose syrup, vermicelli, milk and sweet basil seeds. The band includes members of Kalong, The Great Black Shark and N’Cheezed. On February 29th, 2024, they will release their first demo and in late 2024 they plan on recording their debut LP.
Alright, let’s see what Falooda have to offer! We have around ten minutes of music and four track to enjoy, and enjoy many will, as Falooda have some interesting ideas here. First up, there is Orizuru 折鶴, a two-minute slice of weirdness, and that’s being kind. It’s more like madness, and it’s clear that Falooda are going to take experimenting to an egregious level.
Don’t believe me? Boolean Religion is brilliantly insane, sounding like a goth-infused pop punk and rock tune in part, but with underlying noise elements. The entire thing being capped off with super-freaky vocals and an ending that is… something. It’s hilariously fun, even though I can’t promise that you’re going to love it.
Which also applies to the following Bottleneck, except here, speed and chaos is the name of the game. Falooda certainly do exactly what a demo should do, and that is get your attention. Leading to the last track, Disaster Recovery, and the sound of aural discomfort. It’s hard to even call it a piece of music, but it is fascinating.
I really can’t wait to see what comes from Falooda in the future, and hopefully you will too. They’re a right bunch of weirdos!
