EP Review: Noah and the Loners – A Desolate Warning (Marshall Records)
UK punk-upstarts Noah and the Loners’ new EP, ‘A Desolate Warning’, is set for release on February 28th, 2024, Via Marshall Records.
British punk rock sure has a specific sound, doesn’t it? It’s no surprise that they’ve had comparisons to the likes of The Clash and The Sex Pistols, even it’s fair to say Noah and the Loners aren’t ‘old-school’. It’s about the punk mentality more than anything else, something that comes through strongly in an energetic and outspoken way.
A rallying cry for those navigating the complexities of adolescence and societal expectations, the overpowering grip of toxic relationships, isolation and the stigmas surrounding mental health. Noah and the loners have plenty to say, and that’s the way they like it. Delivering short and sharp jabs in the form of Crashing Landing and Just Kids. Punky, yes, but also infectious and fun.
The longest track on the EP, You Make Me (Fall Apart) is also Noah and the Loners expanding on their punk sound with a bit more melody and a hell of a lot of vulnerability. If you think you had the measure of this band based off the first two tracks, you might find yourself a little wrong-footed now. Though, there is nothing to complain about as it’s a strong track.
Do you know what else is strong? The hefty rock rhythm of Losing my Head and the snarkiness of Hell of A Day. The vocals are so good in this latter track, whereas the former is sure to be a live favourite, such is the sing along/shout along value of it. Great stuff from Noah and the Loners.
