Album Review: Stages of Decomposition – Raptures of Psychopathy (Gore House Productions)

The relentless purveyors of brutal L.A. death grind, Stages of Decomposition are back with a gritty, slamming gruesome third studio release ‘Raptures of Psychopathy’, which will be released on February 2nd, 2024, via Gore House Productions.

When something is referred to as extreme, it can often be a bit of misnomer for something that just happens to be quite heavy. Only in exceptional circumstances does something truly live up to that word, and in the case of Stages of Decomposition, they embody it. In fact, there’s an argument to say they go even further as this album is one of the darkest, nastiest, and most punishing examples of death-grind heard in some time.

This is the extreme bar-setter of 2024, and it’s going to take a seriously f**ked up band to even come close.

We’re talking eleven tracks of the vilest, harshest, ugliest, and immoral sounding music heard in some time. Where everything becomes mush as your brain struggles to take in this level of acidic hate and fury. Is it good? Is it bad? Is that what your guts being ripped out through your arse sounds like? Have you died already and gone to hell?

Seriously, you have to love how ‘matter of fact’ this album is. How straightforward and unsophisticated Stages of Decomposition are. It takes some serious talent to make a listener pay this much attention when they’re being f**ked up vigorously by the music.

What more do you want to hear? There’s no point going into detail about each and every track as it’s a non-stop barrage of wickedness. There is a ton of talent in this band and for all its brutality, it does deliver compelling death-grind noise. The personification of extreme in ways that few will be prepared for. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself bleeding from every orifice come the end, if you do manage to make it that far.
