Interview: Bridge the Gap (Written)
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life bring you an interview with skate punk/melodic punk band, Bridge the Gap.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
I started writing songs at 14. Immediately started a punk band. Been in and out of punk bands ever since. My band now is called Bridge The Gap. We released our debut album back in March entitled ‘Secret Kombinations’ on People Of Punk Rock Records.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
Skatepunk. Or melodic punk.
3. What’s currently going on in your camp? New releases? Tours? Etc.
Bridge The Gap just released a new single entitled Revenant. We’re currently writing songs for our next record which we’ll record at The Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, CO, in February of 2024.
4. What has been the most positive experience of making music to date for you?
The creative process itself, easily. There are a lot of cool and rewarding aspects to making music, but nothing compares to the experience of taking a rough song, polishing it in the studio, and hearing the finished product. It goes from an idea to a tangible thing. How cool is that?
5. Likewise, what has been some of the more challenging aspects and how have you overcome them?
Despite the tectonic changes in the music business over the past 25 years, the most challenging thing about being in a band is getting people to hear your music. On one hand, you can argue that it’s easier than it’s ever been nowadays with the ease of access that streaming offers but on the other, because there aren’t gatekeepers anymore, in the traditional sense, there is possibly 100x more music available to listen to for the fans. Thus, getting your music heard and distinguished among the cacophony is the trick, and the biggest challenge.
6. How do you handle the modern expectations of being in a band? Always online, having to put out content constantly, your success measured in likes and follows?
We don’t give much thought to it, beyond striving to make good music.
7. What’s something that really ‘grinds your gears’ about the industry/business these days and what would you propose is done to combat it?
Honestly, aside from the ubiquitous playlist merchants, nothing really grinds our gears.
8. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support your music?
Listen to Bridge The Gap. That’s all we can ask.
9. Outside of the music, what’s do you do to relax?
I read a lot. I spend time with my wife and kids. And I watch a lot of football.
10. Where can people find you?
