EP Review: Suffocate Faster – This Is The Way Vol. 2 (Smartpunk Records)

Straightedge hardcore band Suffocate Faster return with their brand-new EP ‘This Is The Way Vol. 2’, the second collection of tracks in the band’s two-part EP release. ‘This Is The Way Vol. 2’ will be released on November 17th, 2023, via Smartpunk Records.

Working off the mantra that less is more, Suffocate Faster gave us two tracks on the classy ‘This is the Way Vol. 1’ (read our review here) and follow that up with another solid pair of tracks.

Bringing us positive music in hardcore heavy form, the EP’s first track, Time Flies, is a barrage of ‘in your face’ intensity. Something that is always welcome, and this is a banger track, finding the band in a particular feral mood, with an underlying dark groove that gets the body shaking all over. It’s the kind of hardcore that appeals to all camps.

The other track, It Ends Now, is even more chaotic sounding, yet it comes with a slower tempo that has things sounding particularly filthy. This is the more aggressive of the pair, mainly because of how raw the vocals are, and it bristles with power.

Two tracks and less than six minutes of music, yet Suffocate Faster leave one hell of a mark. This is the Way Vol. 2 is a great encapsulation of their hardcore sound, and their effortless twists on the formula. Play it loud.
