Album Review: Kill The King – Kill The King (Self Released)
Indian thrash metal band Kill the King present their self-titled debut album, scheduled for released on November 3rd, 2023. An album that demonstrates the entire premise that the band revolves around (from the lyrics to the moniker): to stand up against any form of injustice or oppression.
India continues to churn out quality heavy bands that spit truths and defy perceived limitations. The latest to emerge from the country is Kill the King and they play thrash metal. Not just any thrash metal though, a call to arms style of thrash metal.
Following a short guitar-driven intro (Sirens), Kill the King come out absolutely wailing with Hate Advocacy. The unbridled speed, the unrestrained intensity, and the clear fire they have in their bellies gets the heart beating fast, the blood pumping in the veins, and the head banging hard.
Such a hot start might see a lesser band struggle to keep the momentum going but Kill the King are no lesser band. The twin guitar attack of Aditya Swaminathan and Rishikesh Dharap, the savage groove of Saurabh Lodha on bass, Rahul Singh’s tireless drum work, and the soaring ferocity of Pritam Adhikary on vocals makes sure no-one is left in any doubt about their quality. Delivering manic and meticulous thrash bangers with Money Talks, Freedom, and Abuse. Each track, a statement and a showcase of a band wearing their hearts on their sleeves.
Their veracious approach is another major appealing aspect of the record, and arguably nowhere is that better shown then with the drop in tempo, but still venomous sounding, No Country for Women.
The heat is then turned back up as Kill the King go hell for leather with the chaotic sound of In the Name of Culture. The thrashiness is still extremely appealing and the excitement for what comes next is still strong. So, Kill the King reward the listener with two of their strongest efforts in Regicide and Dystopian Reign. Blistering brilliance right up to the very end.
