EP Review: Zvilpogghua – Zvilpogghua (Self Released)
Zvilpogghua rises, discharging guttural, jaw harp ensorcelled death metal. Inspired by the writings of Clark Ashton Smith, these six vociferations aggress with thunderous percussion and malevolent synth ornamentation. Listen and heed the Piper’s call to madness.
An EP of jarring discordance, solo artist Anaxyrus certainly showcases inventiveness and imagination with this six-track release. A blend of frictional death metal noise rooted in MIDI programming, abrasive synth, and unique Jaw harp sounds. It is not an easy listen, but it is something to experience at least once, especially as Zvilpogghua keep each track short and sharp.
Is it any good though? That’s debatable and while many might find it an intriguing listen, many will find the nonsensical approach just too much. It’s easy to understand both points of view, while also appreciate an artist doing their own thing and showing off their creativity in spades.
Check it out, it’s only around nine minutes long overall, and surely you can spare that.
