EP Review: Summoning Death – A Traumatic Night of the Creeps (Chaos Records)

Chaos Records presents the brand-new EP from Mexican death metal band, Summoning Death. It’s called ‘A Traumatic Night of the Creeps’, and it will be released on October 28th, 2023, on CD and cassette tape formats.

Something wicked this way comes…

Featuring two original pieces and two covers, A Traumatic Night of the Creeps is the perfect soundtrack to feeble attempts to survive a murderous rampage. The perfect soundtrack to a night of blood and guts. Beginning in sinister fashion, before chaos erupts with Night of the Creeps. A track that pays tribute to the classic 80s horror movie and, like the film asks, Summoning Death are more than capable of answering the call of ‘thrill me’.

The first of the covers come next with Traumatic’s garish and wicked The Morbid Act of a Sadistic Rape given the Summoning Death treatment. A perfectly fine version that sticks rigidly to the intense formula of the original.

Halloween comes next, and like the name suggests, it pays tribute to the iconic franchise, even sampling the famous music in a clever way. Here, Summoning Death lean right into their darker side, exposing the innards and gristle of blackened death metal in disturbing fashion. How about that bassy stalking segment though? That’s very clever.

Finally, it’s the second cover of the EP and this time it’s Edge of Sanity who get the treatment with Darkday. Summoning Death seemingly possessed by the band to smash out this banging version.
