Album Review: Putrid Torso – Trails Of Hypnotized Human Veins (Pathologically Explicit Recordings)

In the middle of the MySpace era, Putrid Torso were created in 2000 and then, goodbye. They released a few songs, but as both Ion Santos (guitars, bass) and Igor Sánchez (vocals) joined the band Hopelessness, they were never heard from again.

At the beginning of 2022 they got the bug again and revived the project, recording the demo Prologue to Nowhere to prove that they could do things right. Always attentive to the most atrocious proposals, Pathologically Explicit Recordings didn’t take long to sign them for the release of Trails of Hypnotized Human Veins. They will release the debut album from Putrid Torso on October 19th, 2023.

So, what do we have here? It’s simple, really. Brutal death metal. As straight-forward as it comes and it comes with an intent to leave bodies devastated. Putrid Torso have evolved from their brief existence into something much more rancid and the proof is with the stink of this album.

Featuring eight tracks of extreme noise, Putrid Torso begin with fire in their bellies and keep the heat up throughout the record. Seemingly wanting to prove the point that the year 2000 wasn’t ready for them, but 2023 is more than willing to enjoy frenetic and feral metal. While the core of Trails of Hypnotized Human Veins is decidedly simple, credit must be given to the group as there are layers of heaviness that keeps things sounding fresh.

Instrumentally, Putrid Torso are playing as though their souls are on the line, and it’s the vocals demanding payment if they even attempt to slow down or lose any kind of heft. By time the album is halfway over, the brain is starting to turn into mush, but there’s no turning it off now as there is an addictive quality to it. As any fan of extreme and brutal death metal will tell you. Especially if it’s good, and Trails of Hypnotized Human Veins is good.

The world wasn’t asking for Putrid Torso to return, but based off the sheer savagery of this album, we can all be glad they decided to revive the corpse. If you do dare listen, you’re going to need a strong stomach and a willingness to be pummelled over and over again.
