Album Review: Dying Fetus – Make Them Beg For Death (Relapse Records)

One of death metal’s biggest bands, Dying Fetus, return with their highly anticipated new album, Make Them Beg for Death on 8th September via Relapse Records.

Needing no introduction, Dying Fetus have been dishing out brutality for a very long time and they show no signs of slowing down or chilling out just yet. Make Them Beg for Death is as savage and horrible sounding as anything the band has put out before. Continuing the trend of gory violence that has made them so beloved. It’s unfiltered and uncompromising death metal. Nothing more and nothing less.

Which, for some, will have their mind made up before they’ve even given a chance. Which is a real shame as Dying Fetus are on top form here. Digging deep into the gory innards of death metal, pulling out the organs, and smashing them together to create a pulpy mish-mash of classic and modern heaviness. It is an album that sounds both aged and fresh in equal measures.

Yet, there’s a no-nonsense approach to the entire record. Dying Fetus’ focus, as always, is on delivering crushing death metal passion and it burns brightly here. Tracks like Compulsion for Cruelty, Feast for Ashes, When the Trend Ends, and Hero’s Grave, to name a few, are as riffy as they are rancid. It’s an album of garish noise but with a ton of guitar-based flair. A word that few would often use to describe anything Dying Fetus do, but it’s what comes to mind listening to this record.

Long term fans of this band are going to eat this up hungrily. Whereas the naysayers can howl all they want, there’s no denying the quality of this record. If you love death metal, you’ll love the ten gore-drenched beasts that make up Make Them Beg for Death.
