EP Review: Atreyu – The Moment You Find Your Flame (Spinefarm Records)

Alt-rock/metalcore band Atreyu are back with a brand-new EP called ‘The Moment You Find Your Flame.’ This follows on from April’s EP ‘A Hope of a Spark,’ and it will be released on August 18th, 2023, via Spinefarm Records.

This EP is the second part of an EP series that will make up ‘The Beautiful Dark of Life’ album, and the final chapter of the series is due later this year.

After hitting us with the truly anthemic release ‘A Hope of a Spark,’ Atreyu return with something more emotional. While also delivering the anthems that we have all come to expect from the band.

Good Enough is first up and it finds Atreyu in a forthright mood, the vocals expressed with an incredible level of heart and soul. The instruments rising and falling perfectly to keep injecting the body with life-giving energy. It’s easy to forget that this band can be extremely heavy when they want to be.

Immortal is next and it sees Atreyu get a little creative when it comes to effects. The sound of a band utilising modern elements to give their alternative and metalcore sound a fresh edge. Fear not if that’s not your jam, the chorus is Atreyu through and through, and a segment at the end is pure chaos.

The hit of this EP though is Gone… probably. It’s energised and filled with realistic sentiment, but it’s all about the chorus. It’s such a singalong that few won’t be blown away by it. It’s as good a track as anything Atreyu have ever put out and even has a guitar solo that slays.

How do you follow that? By being Atreyu and delivering one more unique banger in the form of I Don’t Wanna Die. A dramatic rock ballad if you can believe that. It’s so disconcerting at first, but it is stupidly lovable.

Four tracks that are all equally brilliant. This is Atreyu at their absolute best.
