EP Review: Carsick – Drunk Hymns (Alcopop! Records)
Salisbury genre-hoppers Carsick are delighted to announce that they have signed to Alcopop! Records, and will release their forthcoming debut EP ‘Drunk Hymns’ on June 30th, 2023.
Combining elements of punk rock, post-punk, alt-rock, hip-hop, and indie rock, Carsick are a bit of a melting pot of ideas. Having a lot fun with what they’re doing, enjoying a drink or two, and throwing a lot of energy into this EP.
The first two tracks might be the exact same length, but they couldn’t be more different. The former, Anaconda Frank, is a frantic punk rock tune with an anthemic chorus. Whereas the latter, Nothing to Do, is a tongue in cheek indie/alt statement that will get a crowd moving.
Following those two tracks, Runner changes the tone again by infusing electronica with light hip-hop elements and plenty of that punk rock energy. Before the EP wraps up with the unexpected melodrama of Heartbreak at the Anchor & Hope. However, while the melody might be sweet, listen to the lyrics. It’s very much Carsick, who are certainly going to become a better well-known name once this EP has wormed its way into the masses’ ears.
