EP Review: No One Cares – Pause/Reboot (Quarock Records)

Italian modern metallers No One Cares will release their new EP, ‘Pause/Reboot’ on June 27th, 2023 via Quarock Records. ‘Pause/Reboot’ represents a true rebirth for No One Cares. Several line-up changes and the pandemic forced the band to take a break, despite the endless desire to create, produce and look ahead. Now the time has finally come to rise up again.

The band states:

The songs on ‘Pause/Reboot’ are a mix of emotions, feelings and moods which we experience every day. From the feeling of emptiness and a sense of the unknown in ‘Empty Hole’, to the frightening and disturbing thoughts of ‘Scary Thoughts’, from the negativity which spreads like a cancer in ‘Negativity’, to the desire for rebirth and feeling alive in ‘Phoenix’, concluding with the post-abandonment depression of ‘Beautiful Sadness’. The intense and aggressive sounds, the energetic and massive rhythms, the search for personal dynamics in each track, fully reflect the energy, intensity and power in expressing our emotional side.

What an apt title to describe the last few years of No One Cares and what a return this is. Featuring five humdingers that blur the lines of crossover metal. You can hear elements of nu-metal, plenty of metalcore infusions, progressive creativity, alternative energy, and more throughout.

All of this comes in an intense and aggressive casing, No One Cares clearly having a cathartic moment on this EP. It’s something quite relatable though, as the past few years have been frustrating for a wealth of reasons. Especially if you are involved in the music scene. No One Cares are letting themselves speak from the heart, and through the medium of antagonistic music, they connect with the listener.

All that being said, Pause/Reboot is also an EP of anthems too. It’s not all misery and belligerence. No One Cares want to get you up and moving and with massive hooks and energetic rhythms they easily accomplish that task here.
