Album Review: WEBB – Deadly Sins and Virtues (Self Released)

From the South West of England, WEBB are an award-winning prog-metal three-piece who will release their new album ‘Deadly Sins and Virtues’ on June 30th.

A concept album around ‘good and bad,’ from the point of view of WEBB and given a modern spin. Deadly Sins and Virtues allows WEBB to speak their mind about several contemporary issues while offering up reasons to be hopeful and positive. Wrapped up in an addictive and anthemic style of prog-metal.

It’s fair to say that the word ‘anthemic’ doesn’t often go with ‘prog’ but WEBB shirk the expectations that the latter’s style must be meandering and overly long. Instead going for a more concise, exciting, and catchy style of heavy music with progressive processes and detail. Think Mastodon rather than Rush. Even if WEBB sound nothing like either band.

They are certainly their own thing, and armed with a concept that you want to pay proper attention to.

This is an album of bangers, and it’s hard to find much in the way of faults. Although few will be looking for them as each is compelling their own way. From the punchy shout-along and head-banger that You’re Going Down. To the vigorous and eccentric Hate, the hard-hitting and defiant Can’t Break Me, and the groovy energy of Hope. Deadly Sins and Virtues is a pretty banger album.

Need anymore proof? Get those neck muscles ready for Stay Alive. The perfect example of WEBB’s heavy sound meshed with progressive touches that is kept short and sweet.
