My Favourite Video Game: Little King
My Favourite Video Game is a guest feature from bands and artists where we set them a simple task… tell us about your favourite video game. In this feature, Ryan from dynamic rock band, Little King, accepts the challenge. You can read all about the choice below.
1970’s…they heydey for my favorite popular music. Video games? Not so much!
I was born in 1972, so we did have a full Pong setup. Wood panelled console, singularly useful “paddle,” and a whole lot of pent up sibling rivalry. Was good…trended towards silly as the Atari 2600 came into play in 1977. Growing up just outside of Seattle, we had a LOT of time indoors in the winter (and summer, spring, fall, second breakfast, Purim, etc…) When the Smith kids up the street had the first 2600, we lowerland Dawn Villa (our neighborhood) kids followed suit.
The hits kept coming…PacMan, Missile Command, Space Invaders, Adventure, Centipede, Frogger, and on and on. The worst was the Indiana Jones game. Obtuse, needlessly so, and very hard to focus on. Swing and a miss, but I’m sure it has a cult following (not looking!)
My FAVORITE? I think it would be Enduro or Dragster. I remember just absolutely eviscerating the neighborhood record. It was a thing, I think, to be under 6 seconds. You were supposed to take a Polaroid and send it to Activision, and they would post it in some newsletter. But guess what? No newsletter came my way. SCAM! Did love that game, though, and it brings back such great childhood memories.
