EP Review: Draconian Reign – Tragedy Eternal (Seek and Strike)
UK symphonic blackened deathcore group Draconian Reign will release their forthcoming EP, Tragedy Eternal, on 5th May via Seek and Strike Records.
Draconian Reign comment:
We definitely spent more time planning each song as a journey for the listener. There are more orchestral passages, but we are very much a riff-driven band. We take influence from bands such as Dimmu Borgir and The Black Dahlia Murder but run through the lens of gothic fantasy and all things macabre. If you dig extreme metal, you’re in for a treat here. Enjoy and we’ll be seeing you on tour across the UK later this year!
Epic-sounding brutal heaviness is the core aspect of Draconian Reign and with this new EP, they make it undeniably clear that they are one of the UK’s most exciting extreme prospects. Delivering a frenzy of bullish deathcore melded with the horrifying sound of black metal, but blended with stunning symphonic elements. That is what gives this EP such an epic flavour and it’s mightily rich tasting.
Four tracks long, four absolute bangers, this is such an immensely satisfying release that picking out a specific track to recommend is impossible as they’re all worthy of your time. It’s almost hilarious how big Draconian Reign have gone here. Putting more effort into an EP than most and making it an unmissable listen. Not just for fans of extreme, but fans of quality metal overall.
If this is a sign of the future, it is looking incredibly bright for this band. Even if that glare is coming from the flames of Draconian Reign’s inferno of heaviness.
