EP Review: The Medea Project – Reflections (Trepanation Recordings)
Blackened raw and primal goth/doom metal band, The Medea Project will release their brand-new EP, Reflections, digitally and on cassette by Trepanation Recordings on April 28th, 2023.
Oozing dark and demented atmosphere, The Medea Project return to haunt the listener’s nightmares with a vast cacophony of blackened doom-infused sinisterness. Setting the mind aflame with horrifying imagery and sounds as The Ghosts of St Augustines MMXXII coils its wicked tentacles around. There is no bottom to The Medea Project’s darkness here and it leaves you feeling distinctly cold and alone.
Dare you listen on?
With Warhead, The Medea Project get more aggressive and more intense. The differing tempos adding a primal edge to the clattering of instruments and black-focused vocals. Then there is Cain. A track with unusual effects layered throughout, adding a strong amount of sinisterness to an already dark experience. Before Nightmare/The Dreamtime makes sure that no-one is comfortable as The Medea Project build up the ambience and melody to an explosive point of rumbling and grumbling heaviness. Easily one of the more imaginative and captivating efforts on the whole EP.
All four tracks are fantastic in their own way, with the fifth being a shorter and edited version of The Ghosts of St Augustines, sandwiched in the middle of the EP.
