Horror Movie Review: The Devils Heist (2020)
Directed by Fernando Acevedo and with a trio of writers; Sandra Rosko, Sophia Louisa, Bryan Sapphire, The Devil’s Heist is no-budget comedy heist horror movie that has some imagination.
Told in chapters and with occasional narration by the character Ted (Bryan Sapphire), The Devil’s Heist sees him, an ex-con, meet up with his old partner and his girlfriend to do one last job. They are going to rob a bank in a small town. A job that seems to good to be true and will set them up for the rest of their lives.
Which won’t be too long as it turns out that this bank, the Coven National Bank, is run by witches on behalf of Satan (Mike Ferguson). You don’t steal from the devil.
It’s a creative concept that, with more money and more talent, could have been a lot of fun. However, if one thing defines this movie more than any other, it is the fact that it is distinctly unfun. Not because it takes itself seriously (it doesn’t), but because the film has no flow and nothing to keep the story moving forward. It is packed with filler and most of that is the trio of heist characters shouting and bickering. It is incessant and horrid to watch and listen to.
When we’re not being driven to boredom with that, the film cuts back to the witches who worry constantly about what Beelzebub will do to them if he finds out they’ve been robbed. Don’t ask why Satan needs money, it’s just one of the many idiotic elements of the this movie. Which could be entertaining if The Devil’s Heist had coherent comedy and a story that flowed.
It’s a pretty awful movie but there are one or two points to praise. There is the make-up and prosthetics on both Satan and his demonic slaves, which looks good. Then there is also the passion that a lot of the actors exude. They’re not good but you can certainly tell they are trying!
