EP Review: Flogging Molly – ‘Til The Anarchy’s Restored (Rise Records)
Flogging Molly, who recently released their raucous seventh album, Anthem, will release the ‘Til The Anarchy’s Restored’ EP on March 10th, 2023, via Rise Records. The EP features a new single, the title track, and a pair of live performances of classic Flogging Molly tracks – ‘Drunken Lullabies’ and ‘What’s Left of the Flag’. Both songs originally appeared on the 2002 album, Drunken Lullabies, and were recorded in one take during the Anthem sessions.
Of course, the main draw of this EP is the new song. Even though we’ve literally just had an album of new tracks from Flogging Molly. No complaints though as Til The Anarchy’s Restored is a bit of a banger. One that has heart and soul in it, the melody and vocals working nicely together to make this one feel more emotional. As it goes on, the folksy instrumentals become more prominent and the tone becomes more triumphant, albeit with the thought-provoking melody constant. A very powerful track that serves as a good reminder of the Flogging Molly layers.
While this track will be the one getting the attention and the replays, the other two tracks shouldn’t be ignored. Two tracks taken from an album that is 21 years old and given the ‘live from’ treatment. Two tracks that are beloved by fans and as entertaining now as they were two decades ago. The party anthem that is Drunken Lullabies and swaying vibes and energetic poignancy of What’s Left of the Flag.
Raise a glass and enjoy another drink with Flogging Molly.
