My Favourite Video Game: Pressure
My Favourite Video Game is a guest feature from bands and artists where we set them a simple task… tell us about your favourite video game. In this feature, melodic rock band Pressure accepts the challenge. You can read all about the choice below.
Playing games for me is to be able to relax. I feed a lot of energy into my music and all my life is just like running in a hamster wheel. So, I use games to relax and keep my mind of everything. After some game time my mind is more or less reset and I get new energy to do things.
I do unfortunately not have the time to play games that are too complicated and takes too much time to play through and to learn even if I would like to do that some time. I return to my old and classical games and some mobile games. I would like to focus this feature on an old space simulator/story-based game called Wing Commander. It’s a series of games that was released during 1990-2007.
I remember that it was a mind-blowing experience to run the first game in the series. Back then the computers had not good graphics and competed with the NES and other consoles. But this game was different.
Using a narrative approach, flying different missions, and depending how you performed during the mission and what objectives you achieved you advanced differently into the story. You also commanded your wing man and could order them to attack or hold or a lot of different things. It was very cool for a young boy as me.
But the most mind-blowing thing with this game was the smooth and really nice-looking graphics and game play. When compared to other flight simulators of that time this was so smooth and all the graphics kept up even at the old computer capacity.
I love these games and I have a retro emulator with all the games in the saga, sometimes when I need something new in my mind or when I want to solve a problem, I fire up an old Wing commander mission, and blasts some enemy ships out of the sky.
Check it out if you want just easy and good space story based simulation and action. And see if you can beat my killboard result of 146.
