EP Review: Caustic Waves – Full Circle (Self Released)

Caustic Waves, a melodic alternative rock/post-hardcore band with a pinch of late-90s nostalgia, will release the EP ‘Full Circle’ on March 3rd, 2023.

It’s always impressive to hear something great coming from a solo act, which is very much the case with Caustic Waves’ Full Circle. The work of one person – Neil Thomas, Full Circle is an enjoyable blend of alt-rock, post-hardcore and a light-grunge edge. Featuring six tracks of extensive body-shakers and head-bangers. All with a nostalgic touch that will hit those of a certain age harder than others.

An anthemic start that has some robust sounding riffs and plenty of that late 90s/early 00s alt-rock angst, Knocking At My Door starts the EP off strongly. Yet, it’s the confident sound of Invisible Enemy that really stands out. The hot tempo, melodic vocal style, and harmonised chorus makes this particular track a notable banger.

It’s with Regenerate and Barriers that the post-hardcore side of Caustic Waves really starts to sound a bit more prominent. Albeit blended to an easy to enjoy paste with the alternative experimentation. A certain amount of infectious energy, dramatic in places, and layered with heavier groove. Both tracks continue to prove that Caustic Waves will make a decent sized splash once this EP lands.

Something that is further cemented with Idiocracy and Evolution. The former’s crashing guitar work sounds immense and the latter is a glorious anthem that makes you want to move as though its 1999 again.

Caustic Waves – Full Circle Track Listing:

1. Knocking At My Door
2. Invisible Enemy
3. Regenerate
