Album Review: Stormo – Endocannibalismo (Prosthetic Records)

Following their recent signing to Prosthetic Records, Italian post-hardcore group Stormo will release their fourth studio album – titled Endocannibalismo – on February 10th, 2023.

Post-hardcore with the emphasis on hardcore, Stormo’s new album is a wild affair that spits and snarls with excessive intensity. Featuring an array of blastbeats, garish rhythmic shifts and twists, punk-infused energy, and capped off with vocals in their native language. All of which gives the album a fresh feel.

It helps that the experience is mentally stretched and physically draining, Stromo proving to be a lot more uncouth than many other bands within their genre.

The 11 tracks of the album spit, snarl and spew a cacophony of feral heaviness. Downright delightful levels of fire and ferocity, enjoyable chaotic energy. Although with more elaboration than one might expect with those sort of descriptions. Notable detail and depth from the very start with Valichi, Oltre – which just so happens to also be the longest track on the album.

Elsewhere, the likes of PV77, Spire, the title track, Disequilibrio, and Vipere, Ombre create a storm of sharp, savage, and nuanced hardcore noise. Stormo often at their strongest and at their harshest sounding on these particular tracks. Although, it is fair to say that Stormo provide nothing comfortable or relaxing across the entire album.

Who wants to sit comfortably anyway when listening to this kind of music? It’s the perfect example of music that demands you get up and follow suit, by going as wild as humanely possible.
