Album Review: Jenner – To Live is to Suffer (Fighter Records)
On the 9th of February 2023, Fighter Records will re-issue heavy/thrash metal band, Jenner’s debut album ‘To Live Is to Suffer’ on CD, 12″LP, Cassette & Digital formats.
The Serbian three-piece are certainly drawing inspiration from the classic heavy and later thrash sound of metal. Delivering eight punchy head-bangers that move at a frantic pace. Packed with full-bodied riffs, smart hooks, crunching percussion, and snarling vocals. Putting it simply, Jenner rock extremely hard here.
Kicking off the heaviness with the meaty meanness of Factory of Death and reaching an early apex of crowd-encouraging intensity with Hear the Thunder Roar. This is Jenner at their most concentrated sounding and it’s clear they will be getting a bit more attention directed at them with this re-issue thanks to tracks like this.
Pushing things a bit further with Demon’s Call, Jenner’s virulence is on full show here. The riffs cut through the soft tender parts of the mind, the vocals alternate between comforting and chaotic, and the drums absolutely pound away. A track that passes the six-minute mark but is kept interesting thanks to the rhythm shifts.
It’s less complex but equally thrilling stuff with The Heath is Coming Again, On the Judgement Day, and How Deep is Your Greed. Unadulterated heaviness and head-banging inducing quality constantly and consistently from Jenner. Though, if you want just one example of speed and ferocity though, Silent Killer’s pointed and sharp expulsion of heft will deliver.
Finally, it’s Opened (On the Table) to leave the neck muscles well and truly aching. Jenner really going hell for leather and making sure To Live Is to Suffer ends with a bang rather than a whimper.
For many, this will be the first time they hear this band, and even though this record has been around since 2017, it’s not had the chance to reach many ears. That now changes and there will be some extremely grateful ears.
