Album Review: Faithxtractor – Contempt for A Failed Dimension (Redefining Darkness Records)

Contempt For a Failed Dimension is the new album from death metal two-piece, Faithxtractor. It will be released on January 20th, 2023, via Redefining Darkness Records.

Having been around since 2005, it’s safe to say that Faithxtractor are confident in their ability to deliver something dark and dangerous. Something made up of eye-watering speed, monstrous intensity, and hellacious heaviness. Which is exactly what Contempt For a Failed Dimension is.

A brash, no-nonsense blast of guttural death metal, layered with aggressive speed and dark intent. Yet, it’s not an overly simplified style, as Faithxtractor’s beast is much more detailed and way more interesting because of that. The six tracks (and one cover) that make up this release provide varied amounts of nightmarish sounds. Devilish and devious, but smartly structured and infinitely interesting.

This album is so much more than the wailing, screeching, and smashing of vocals and instruments. Even if it’s also all of those things. Faithxtractor are an extremely talented duo and turn the brutality of their death metal sound into something complex and interesting. That’s not often something you can say about this specific sub-genre of metal.

It’s far too short though. Even if it does wrap up with a killer cover of Sepultra’s EotD.
