Album Review: Defy the Curse – Horrors of Human Sacrifice (Hammerheart Records)

Made up of former members of Collision, Cauterize, Inhume, The Guilt Parade, Mangled and Legion of the Damned. Old-school death metal band, Defy The Curse will release their debut album, ‘Horrors of Human Sacrifice’, via Hammerheart Records on January 13th, 2023.

No-nonsense, no-frills, no-f**ks given. Defy the Curse deliver an unashamed throwback to the death metal sound of old with this debut album. Where the horror extends beyond what you’re hearing. You can smell the death, taste the rot, and feel the hate in every part of this beast.

Let mayhem commence!

The impressive talents of Defy the Curse make sure this album doesn’t just grab the attention; it holds it. That, and the concise make-up of the record. Tracks that fly by in a blur of ripping and tearing noise. Serrated riffs, bone-grinding percussion, and blood-gurgling vocals. Horrors of Human Sacrifice will set the mind aflame with twisted imagery through the sheer intensity of what emanates from within.

There’s nothing world-changing here but that doesn’t really matter. We’re talking about a solid slab of death metal here. Delivered by a talented group capable of meeting the expectations of old-school fans. All while they don’t isolate new listeners who come across the record.
