Christmas Horror Short Review: The Grinch (2022)
Written, directed and starring Michael Ciriello, alongside Valentino Ciriello and Jenna Maurer. The Grinch is a horror short that Dr Seuss certainly could never have envisioned his character to be used in.
Where a killer, dressed in a Grinch costume, butchers three people in bloody fashion. All with the mannerisms and energy of Jim Carey’s version. What is obviously cheap and has wooden dialogue is enhanced by a tongue in cheek approach to murder and mayhem.
There’s just something hilarious about the way in which this Grinch turns naughty behaviour into something much more violent.
The Grinch doesn’t have a lot of meat to the bones as the setup is threadbare and there’s no sense to the murders. It’s the equivalent of a killer in a Santa costume going from house to house. Except here, it’s someone in a Grinch costume. Which it clearly is, as several times you can see the person’s neck under the mask. A minor complaint though as the overall costume is pretty good and the actors (both Ciriello men take turns in the role) give it their all.
Thankfully, the effort pays off and The Grinch can be called entertaining. Even if it’s not fun for the whole family. Check it out below.
