Album Review: Mos Generator – Time//Wounds (Music Abuse Records)

After 22 years of making music, the heavy rock band that is Mos Generator show no signs of slowing down. On December 16th, 2022, they will release their new album ‘Time//Wounds’ via Music Abuse Records.

Proving once again, that anything that comes from this three-piece is worth paying attention to. Mos Generator return with something truly outstanding. A weird, eccentric, exciting and entertaining slice of heavy rock music that is a lesson for younger and newer bands in how to make rock music that is challenging, groovy and catchy from beginning to end.

If you’re not up and moving to Time//Wounds, it’s because you’re sitting in shock at just how immensely interesting the record is.

A near-perfect example of instrumental harmonisation, thoughtful melodies, relatable lyrics, and heavier tonal shifts. Experimental, but not so egregiously strange that it becomes a mush of progressive oddities with no rhythmic value. Time//Wounds is vastly charming from beginning to end, and there’s a lot to unpack across its runtime.

Don’t let the six-tracks fool you. There are some expansive offerings here. None more notable than the near 15-minute finale of Until We Meet Again. A stunning example of Mos Generator moving from one tone to another, shifting a track into a different gear effortlessly, and making sure nothing feels wasted or unnecessary.

It is incredible to hear a band still pushing themselves the way that Mos Generator do here. That, after so many releases and so much worldwide experience, they can drop something so inimitable, so ingenious, so motivating and so exhilarating is truly staggering.

A must listen.
