Band Interview: Oaks
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life being you an interview with French conceptual and instrumental metal band, Oaks.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Julien and I were friends in our hometown. When we move to Paros we decided to create a band under the sign of heaviness and our will to play loud.
We wanted to create a free project without any boundaries and Oaks was the answer!
2. How would you describe your sound?
A progressive and conceptual wall of visual sound. Heavy and loud, full and complex. Some kind of synesthesic expérience.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
So much. In fact we put inside Oaks all kind of music we all of us have listened for years. But our music could be a mix between Tool, Russian Circles and Mastodon.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
We just released our first album also it’s a bit early to answer this question. Anyway as an 40 year-old guy I am still a CD and LP lover. Of course internet and streaming was an incredible possibilty for promotion cancelling the traditional press way (which you often have to pay), but now it’s like an uncontrollable beast.
Now the videos/photos/etc … are more important than music and its very hard to get the attention more than 30s. I feel pity about how all this went.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Taking care of my daughter, listening to music and creating new visuals fir the live Oaks video shows.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Yes as our album was just released, we have some gigs coming. We hope to find a booker soon. We also are working on our next EP, which will be released mid 2023.
