EP Review: Alda Sky – A World Divided (Self Released)

Adelaide heavy act Alda Sky return in 2022 with a new collection of music under their belt. The EP ‘A World Divided’ will be released on November 25th, 2022 and sets out to question the ever-changing landscape of the world as we know it and how it affects citizens both individually and on a mass scale.

A pertinent theme surrounds this EP, one that pretty much everyone can relate to. Such detail makes an immediate impact. Although the explosive modern metalcore and post-hardcore energy of opener Disintegration certainly helps that. A track that is multi-layered and showcases Alda Sky’s genre-bending style and ability to keep the listener on edge.

It should come as no surprise that such a strong start would continue as the following track, Static, is an intense ball of energy. Alda Sky’s riffs becoming more angular and the heaviness is taken up a notch. Before Disconnect combines bewildering rhythm with tight and snarling ferocity, and Respite goes grander and more epic with the melodies.

If Alda Sky aren’t already your new favourite band, then Haunted will do the job. An immense track that creates mental mayhem. The desperate feeling of being in a pit as this track plays out is prominent, but the soaring chorus is what takes it up that extra notch. Finally, it’s Blink of an Eye to close out this excellent EP. A head-banger, with depth to the melody not heard elsewhere and another explosive chorus.
